Nara-E-Mastana (I Am Drunk of Love)

I hardly understand the meaning of this song but it's intoxicating. I am not sure but the title Nara-E-Mastana probably translates to I Am Drunk of Love. Poetry by Wasif Ali Wasif and sung by the great Abida Parveen, it's a haunting piece. Please let me know if anyone has the got the english translation.

main nara-e-mastana main shouqi-e-rindana
main tashna kahan jaaon pee kar bhi kahan jana

main souz-e-mohabbat hoon main aik qayamat hoon
main ashk-e-nadaamat hoon main gouhar-e-yakdana

main tahir-e-lahoti main johar-e-malkooti
nasoot ne kab mujh ko is haal main pehchana

main shamm-e-farozan hoon main aatish-e-larza hoon
main sozish-e-hijraan hoon main manzil-e-parwana

kiss yaad ka shera hoon kiss chashm ka darya hoon
khud toor ka jalwa hoon hai shakl qalbhana

main husn-e-mujassim hoon main gesu-e-barham hoon
main phool hoon shabnam hoon main jalwa-e-janana

main wasif-e-bismil hoon main ronaq-e-mehfil hoon
ik toota hua dil hoon main shehar main veerana

main nara-e-mastana main shouqi-e-rindana
main tashna kahan jaaon pee kar bhi kahan jana

Whoever has taken pains to find the meanings of the words (thesauri that the person has explored...) is very consummate with the beauty and the vista of the Urdu language that existed and always takes forms in various forms of poetry...

It should not take any average human being to find out the context of the poetry in question, enjoy the poet's version and also expand on one's own...as to what it could mean to oneself....

Thanks!!

Thanks a lot for this post. I couldn't understand even a single word but even then I used to listen to this song. My sincere thanks to the person who really took the pain of explaining this song, though I know that these words are still beyond my comprehension.

Thanks again :)

Thanks for your visit. Translation can never do full justice, but nevertheless it will give some idea about context.

That's the beauty about music, it's beyond language. This world would be a bitter place without music:)

Lovely translation by ----- (I wish I had a better way to refer to him/her). The amount of effort could not have been ordinary.

A few additions -

Yakdaana = Ik Daana = A single/unique offering

Toor = Tuwar = Pulse

Thank you for posting!

Main nara-e-mastana, main shouqi- e- rindana
Main tashna kahan jaaon, pee kar bhi kahan jana
Slogan of Inebriation am I, drunkard mercurialness am I
drink may I , may I not hardly does it make a difference
Main souz-e-mohabbat hoon, main aik qayamat hoon
Main ashk-e-nadaamat hoon, main gouhar-e-yakdana
A burning heat of love am I, the eventual
Tear of ignominy , a pearl unfound am I
Main tahir-e-lahooti, main johar-e-malkooti
Nasoot ne kab mujh ko is haal mein pehchana
Pern of heaven, the gem of empires and I
Hath when humanity known me so?
Main sham-e- farozan hoon, main aatish-e-larza hoon
Main sozish-e-hijraan hoon, main manzil-e-parwana
Illuminating light of the dusk, a raging flame am I
Mordancy of parting, Destination of Pyralid am I
Kis yaad ka sehera hoon, kis chashm ka darya hoon
Khud toor ka jalwa hoon, hai shakl qalbhana
A desert of thoughts, a river of which fall?
the biggest reality of the universe yet unrevealed
Main husn-e-mujassim hoon, main gesu-e-barham hoon
Main phool hoon shabnam hoon, main jalwa-e-janana
A frozen beauty am I, a ringlet in anger
A flower, the dew am I, beauty of the beloved
Main wasif-e-bismil hoon, main ronaq-e-mehfil hoon
Ik toota howa dil hoon, main shehar mein veerana
Wasif, slayed am I, heart of the crowd
A broken heart am I, a lonely in the city.

Mastana has a double meaning, mastana can also mean a moth so "I am a human moth" naara-eh-mastana. Like human is the moth and the Light is the Divine.
